Tehran - religious police shut down hair dressers and clothes shops

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Police closed 32 clothes shops and hairdressers and stopped cars and pedestrians in the street in an intensified crackdown on women who do not abide by Iran's strict Islamic dress code and on men who take up fashions seen as too Western, Iranian media reported Monday. The sweep, which was launched Saturday in some neighborhoods of Tehran, is part of an annual campaign aimed at enforcing dress codes, which require women to wear long loose robes or coats and cover their hair in public. Many women, particularly in Tehran, push the boundaries of the code, wearing short, colorful coats that show the shape of the body and letting their headscarves slip to show much of their hair.

Update: Boy-on-a-bike has suggested that shops which sell crop tops to chubby chicks should be shut down. I tend to agree. Muffin-tops don't look the best. And the low rider jeans, too. How on earth do they keep them on? Velcro?

And I'm sorry, Boy, but here's the old "mutton-dressed-as-lamb". Be very glad it's not a front view.

I guess there's something to be said for fashion police after all. Geeze-wheeze, how un-self aware can people be?

"Good public policy should be based on objectively researched evidence ..." but Miss Fry is known for her speech decrying the KKK crosses burning on lawns in Prince George. Her knowledge of this event was unmatched by any of the town's current residents. She also makes vigorous use of scientific evidence which supports her causes, being dismissive of all others.
