Wildlife at home

I just popped outside to put an apple in the garden near the carport for the bandicoots (*don't tell the farmers, they'll be really cross with me!).

Up in the frangipani I saw this:

Ok, ok, I know. It's DARK. It's NIGHTTIME here. And the flash in the camera isn't so flash - I think the batteries have gone to God - they've only lasted five years! Harrumph.

Anyway, it's a tawny frogmouth. Owl. Maybe it's waiting for any mice which might run by.

*no farms within miles of me, so I think I'm pretty safe.

Meh. And THAT post went well.

Hi Skeets, this is the last bandicoot which met my dogs:

Turned out that some of his family were candidates for a study at the local university. A little Japanese girl who was doing a PhD wanted to study the breeding habits of bandicoots. She caught a lot of them at my place. She's finished her PhD and she also sent me some pix of our "grandchildren". Unfortunately, I lost them in a computer catastrophe.

Nice try Kae.

That’s not really a bird, and those aren’t trees at all.

That’s a macro-lens close up of the last living head louse on the last three hairs on the nearly bald scalp of the Federal Minister for Endangered Species, Peter Garrett!

For the love of life itself, organize a protest march, print bumper stickers, SAVE THE LOUSE!!!

Feeding bandicoots?
You do realise I hope, that they are the major vector for dog-killing paralysis ticks.
Check your email for a bit of enlightenment.

They're great pics. Makes one realise that living in the big smoke doesn't have the charm of a rural existence. Mehaul
