Not one member of the seven-man Arab crew was smart enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, so the $80 million brand-new aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totaling it.More here.
The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown, for there has been a news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere. Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Moslem Arabs. Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.
Found at Dogfight at Bankstown.

Not entirely true. The picture shown and a brief story DID appear in the MSM. This is not a recent story by any means.
Oh, Nic, but it's priceless.... especially the insulting bit.
When dealing with countries and cultures like this, you always have to wonder if the crew was selected based on their skills and aptitude, or who they were related to.
It's nice to know that in Aus, the people on the other side of the cockpit door are not there because they are the useless nephew of an inbred prince.
Excellent point, BoaB.
The ex was looking at working for Boeing in Saudi in the 90s.
I think it might have been an eye-opener for him, though he'd taught foreign military people in Melbourne.
My brother won't take a flight if it's on an Airbus...which has NOTHING to do with this little bit of hilarity...but he follows all sorts of aviation news, & he sent this to me a couple weeks ago. We had a good laugh.
I dunno, kc. There's a few people I know weren't fussed on the 747-400, I think it was, the one which flew into the ground in France.
No it's not a recent story but I can't recall it every making front page news globally. And it should have.
It's not every day you total an $80 million brand-new aircraft by hurling it at a blast barrier.
I agree with you, Kae - the funny part here isn't the aircraft, it's the brilliance of the crew attempting flight...and that can (and does) happen anywhere idjits are found.
TW: shzswr! Youbetcha!
It was an Airbus 320, at Mulhouse, in 1988: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EM0hDchVlY

Thanks, Minicapt. My memory is shot - and I'm terrible with numbers. That's the one I meant, must just be the airbus that people don't like.
