This song is my favourite from the Mikado.

Ah - Gilbert & Sullivan - it brings back memories. In days of yore when our world and values were not so prudish and boys and girls went to separate schools, at the school that I attended each year we would put on a G&S production over a number of nights. It was full on to the approval of J C Williamson for reasons of copyright in those days. The female characters were all filled by younger boys and I, with a super soprano voice, one year was picked for the leading soprano role. It must have been quite impressive because my friends still talk about it today! It was lots of funs as were all the other G&S productions. And the photos from the era could be used for mischief with some prominent people being particularly vulnerable... if.....

But does any school do something similar these days? No - not on your life.. What dress boys up in drag? How shocking! We’d probably scar them for life.
