This is ludicrous

From wand, a link in the "Cultural" blog's comments below.

UN Divided over gay rights declaration.
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The U.N. General Assembly split over the issue of gay rights on Thursday after a European-drafted statement calling for decriminalization of homosexuality prompted an Arab-backed one opposing it.
Then this:

...It urged states "to take all the necessary measures, in particular legislative or administrative, to ensure that sexual orientation or gender identity may under no circumstances be the basis for criminal penalties, in particular executions, arrests or detention."

But the opposing document said the statement "delves into matters which fall essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of states" and could lead to "the social normalization, and possibly the legitimization, of many deplorable acts including pedophilia."
Normalisation of paedophilia? You mean like marrying six year olds? Sex with 8 and 9 year olds?
The "normalization, and possibly the legitimization, of many deplorable acts". Bestiality? FGM? Honour killings?

Do I laugh, or do I cry?

more.

Update: for clarity, two of the last three paras.

Hi kae,

it is a waxed question, I offer no opinion as to the rights or wrongs of homosexuality.

But I certainly would resent the interference into our affairs from someone, half way across the world.

It really is a broad local community issue.

As to pedophilia, coming from the Arabs, you'd have to laugh!

Happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year to you and to all the fellow bloggers

Thanks Orion.
I have no opinion on homosexuality - except that it is not a choice, I didn't choose to be heterosexual, I just am.
I don't want homosexuality in my face, as I don't want heteros in my face, but there's less chance of that - wot, no straight mardi gras?
Whether someone is homosexual or not matters not to me (unless I'm interested in them in that way!). Someone's sexual orientation does not define them.

It's getting late, I'm getting tired, my eyes are getting blurry. Kae, I read you comment as:

"I don't want homosexuality on my face".

Time for bed.
