Q&A last nite...

Oh Skeeter, they flubbed the straight guy line from Julie!!

TONY JONES: Let's hear from another baby boomer, Julie Bishop.

JULIE BISHOP: Well, I was just interested in the questioners comment about political satire. How could PJ satirise this. I think it's marvellous that political satire is so alive and well. I mean, it's been around ever since government and politicians have been around, for sure, but the fact that we can laugh at ourselves - in fact, why don't you laugh at yourself a lot more David? You'd be so much happier.

DAVID MARR: I have very little time left from laughing at you.

CRAIG EMERSON: You should let Tony ask the questions from now on.

JULIE BISHOP: No, this guy is so full of angst and anger.

DAVID MARR: I know.

JULIE BISHOP: And I wish you'd lighten up.

DAVID MARR: I know.

JULIE BISHOP: And I think the PJ O'Rourke's of the world...

TONY JONES: Do you think the lesson from the OJ Simpson trial, never ask a question you don't know the answer to...

JULIE BISHOP: Oh, I expected that answer. I expected that answer, don't worry.

PJ O'ROURKE: (Indistinct).

DAVID MARR: Are you claiming to be my straight girl now.

JULIE BISHOP: Whoa. Well, I could say...

*55:32Bishop: I could say…. I could say you wouldn’t have any use for a straight guy…

DAVID MARR: Don't touch me.

MULTIPLE SPEAKERS TALK AT ONCE

JULIE BISHOP: I could say you wouldn't be my straight guy, but that wouldn't be fair, would it?

TONY JONES: Cindy Pan, it's all getting a little strange at the end of the evening. What are your reflections on this other generation that seems to control politics and the media, et cetera, et cetera?

Julie Bishop's performance was a work of art. She had Marr completely tied in knots and outclassed the other locals on the panel. That woman wields a mean chainsaw.

Where did they find that bimbo "doctor" on the panel? PJ O'Rourke just didn't get time to get into his stride as a raconteur. And is the hippie harridan who attempted to have a go at old PJ going to be a regular on these gigs?

Q & A will have to work hard to ever be as interesting as that episode, and judging by the lineup of more of the usual suspects next week, This last one was the only good one in the season.
