Royal Australian Mint opened to the public for the first time

Amazing.

Just heard this news report.

When I was in primary school, in the mid 60s, one of the school excursions was to Canberra, Australia's Capital. It was a real adventure, we stayed in a motel overnight. While there we visited Parliament House, The Australian War Memorial, and the Royal Australian Mint, amongst other places.

Tonight I hear a news report that the Royal Australian Mint has opened to the public for the first time.

What were we school kids, chopped liver?

Unfortunately they don't give free samples...

I remember going in the late 70s/early 80s with my Grandfather. That wasn't even a school trip.

I went there in the 1980's as well. I have a brochure in the car from the last trip to Canberra from the Mint - we wanted to take the kids, but didn't make it due to lack of time, but it is definitely open.

Maybe they opened on a weekend for the first time? I seem to remember it only being 9-5, Mon to Fri.

Did you hear that report on the ABC?

I heard it on free to air, non-taxpayer funded.
