Fridge

Remember the dramas with my new fridge?

Well, I think it's not working properly.

It's running noisily, there's warm patches on the inside of the fridge cabinet, and dairy (milk, yoghurt)seems to go off quickly (way before the use-by date).

It's really pissing me off becuase it's only about 8 months out of warranty or less (if it's a 12 month warranty, purchased March 2009). I'll have to check it out.

Sux to that!

Update:
HURRAH! Search for "Warranty".

does it keep beer cold? ... that would be my priority ...

Dairy's going off. The milk goes off way before the use-by date, yoghurt starts bubbling away within a few days.
Fruit's going mouldy (figs).
A couple of shanks I put in the top of the cabinet turned green where they were touching the top of the cabinet, overnight.

No.
I don't think the beer would be cold enough.

The temp is set a 4C, but it's reading 10C at the thermometer I have in the fridge.

find a neighbour to take what is salvageable, get a fridge mechanic in, and put the beer in an esky with ice ... i'm being a bit flippant here ... check online whether the fridge is a lemon, maybe you can go back to the manufacturer ... the planned obsolescence here is a bit premature kae ...

I have a bar fridge and a small freezer so if I needed to I could salvage stuff.

But the problem is that the fridge part is not cooling, the freezer is working fine.

I'll phone where I bought it tomorrow and ask how long the warranty is for. Then I'll contact Westinghouse.

I shoulda got a Kelvinator, the old one lasted 19 years, and I replaced it before it died!!

i love the recent tv ad where the boyfriend/husband buys two bar fridges for the bedroom ... funny, maybe it's a bloke thing ... you and i can't fix modern refrigerators so ring someone quickly ... watching fry on the abc now ... i like him, but why is he doing that? hmmm ...

It's been like this for months, I just didn't realise that the fridge was on the fritz. It was the meat that made me look at the thermometer.
The shanks resting against the roof of the cabinet.
Yuk!

i've been told that the door shelves are not places to keep food because the insulation is thin and the doors open up ... hopefully you can get a quick fix ... fridges can be fixed ... shanks ... yum, yum ...

I keep things I use quickly in the door, milk, and things which aren't perishable, drinks, condiments, etc.

I think there's most definitely something wrong with the fridge. Things have been going off in it for months and I didn't realise it was warmer than it should be until the shanks (they were a treat for the dogs).

No wonder the meat wasn't keeping for as long as it should have!

I recently replaced my (suddenly dead) Kelvinator which I'd bought at a seconds dealer when I moved to WA in 1989 so nothing to complain about there.

I bought a Westinhouse and didn't wake up until I started to fill it that a 2lt milk would not fit in the door shelf (too narrow). Neither would a bottle of wine fit (too tall) on the lowest shelf in the door. Now I'm constantly cleaning up milk dripped from the container, no matter how hard I tighten it, as I have not option but to put on its side. I never imagined that a brand new fridge would not be designed to accommodate these basic items. Silly me.

Regards
Sandi

I wish I'd paid more for a Westinghouse!
Having said that, my fridge is enormous and has adjustable door shelves which work fine, I'd like two extra shelves for the doors, one for the freezer and one for the fridge. My 2l milk fits fine in the door. (But it's not the best place to put it because with opening and closing the door the door becomes the place in the fridge with the most unstable temperature.
