Digital TV problems

Just watching a bit of a movie on GEM and, in the quiet moments I can hear.... sport commentary. Tennis and the  Tour de France.

Great in a movie. There are adverts now for CNN.

I don't know what channel it is or who to complain to. It's really annoying.

I have the same problem with Channel 7. Other channels are often pixellated through the 7 channels.

Arrgh!

Pixellating is what happens after a couple of rums, at least according to my eyes anyway Kae.

It looks like you have a signal problem. You may need to upgrade your aerial/cable, or maybe get a booster fitted as I had to do.

Or unplug your booster - which strangely fixed our problem.

It was fine when I first got the TV and way before that when I got the HDD unit... I had to get a new booster (I have four sockets in the house for the aerial), and it was fine after that.

It's truly giving me the sh1tz! I even used to be able to get SBS, but can't get it at all now. I can get all channels 'cept SBS on the cheap Aldi TV in the family room. When I tune the HDD. The TV in the loungeroom gets all but SBS, but the quality of 7 is patchy. Today, now, it's fine. 7two and 7 mate are OK, but I'll bet they'll be crap tonight (or thisafternoon).
I can't even tune into any of the seven stable on the HDD, and like the other receivers, I can't get SBS at all.
On one of them I can get SBS with the analogue stuff, but it is unwatchable, just snow and no sound... but you can just make out the SBS logo occasionally.

Gunna have to get me the 'lectrician in to check the tuning out.

Back in the old days, when all we had was Black & White AM radio, we were happy ...

Check your antenna and in-bound cables, but keep in mind that the stations may be fiddling with their transmitters.

Cheers

Try FoxSports 1 and 2. If you can get the rugby you will be just fine!

Do you know somethingk? There will be 43 World Cup matches televised during the World Cup in NZ, and 7 or 8 in the Tri Nations before then.

How good is that? Pluddy near as good as 43 blocks of dark chocolate with brazil nuts in it, or 43 bottles of Glenfiddich single malt. They're from Brazil, the nuts.

Then there is the ITM Cup in NZ provincial rugby, the Currie Cup in South Africa and the weekly Club game in Sydney.

I do hope that helped kae. :)

(sound of feet running away)

Sounds like a problem with your antenna or cable and or booster.

If they worked before, then the signal is probably OK.
Check if the booster power is on, if you know where it's connected?

People drink Glenfiddich when they can't handle a proper single-malt.

If I had to move from here, I'd want to live near "Mick Gold Coast QLD." TV signal or no!

Kae, it just so happens I work next to an Engineer for who Television and radio signals are his area of expertise. Just a few questions and I may be able to point you in the correct direction. Just to confirm you have an Arial and booster , Is it on the masthead or in the room? I also understand you have a few devices that you are getting to take care of the job of providing you with the Digital TV reception and you are sometimes having to use analogue when you get no digital signal at all. I assume GEM is digital in Qld as here. All correct Yes?

Kae, all you have to do is get a "proper" UHF antenna installed.

A common mistake by simple folk.....

I'm a man of simple pleasures Minicapt ... and the price is right. :)

Further, I have never been blessed with the authority vested in a trained invader and pillager like your good self, where one just strides in armed to the teeth, seizes the booty right off the top shelf to slam it down like a Jack Nicholson / Bruce Willis Colonel in a single gulp in front of the terrified invadee.

I sip and savor in a suave and sophisticated style.

(Oh well done Mick, good on ya son - what a beautiful end bit. That'll sort the Canuck out for sure!)

Oh dear - I announce intention to formally consider a raaaaacist attack on Minicapt and the kaester reveals I'm under Mick Surveillance by instantly sooling one of her very own red guard onto me to issue a thinly veiled death threat.

Shoulda kept me big trap shut. :)

I need a whisky!

Hi Everyone
There are two aerials, one little one and the other a UHF one (it's smaller than the other).
The booster is for the aerial, the boster is on the mast and the plug for power supply is in the computer room.

Kae,
How close are you to your local UHF translator and how old is your antenna cabling in the house?
This worked for me: I disconnected the antenna cable from the antenna wall-socket to the TV and replaced it with a $6 indoor antenna. Perfect picture and sound on all channels.
Obviously the 25-y-o cabling built into the house (for VHF reception from Brisbane) had passed its use-by date.

Hi Skeeter
It seems the seven reception has settled down. I'm not game to try to tune the HDD, but I've been able to get all the sevens on the TV for several days.
The aerial jacks were put in when the house was built, we moved in 11 Dec 1993.
I have no idea where the nearest UHF repeater or whatever is.
