Dilemma.

Should people who educate their children with a political view point not acceptable to state authorities, however not illegal, have their children taken away from them by the state?

Two children have been taken away from their parents for abuse. The father is a neo-nazi and the mother is a white supremacist. The children are 7 and 2, and the daughter was sent to school wearing a swazstika, which is what caused the attention by state child protection services.

Watch the video of the discussion between Levant and Rosenthal.

What about the child brought up in a home and taught that people who don't wear the hijab are filthy infidels; that women who don't cover themselves invite rape; that all women not of the same religion are prostitutes and "available".

What about children ingrained with the idea that 9/11 was a conspiracy (and other similar ideas), and children abused by having drummed into them the idea of anthropogenic global warming and other scare-mongering dogma.

It's not illegal. There's supposed to be freedom of belief, that includes political belief. If it's not all right to teach your children your beliefs then perhaps it's time to do something about anyone who does not toe the line as far as what the state represents.

Update:
Ezra elaborates... thanks to Wand.
I didn't see this before I wrote the above.

Kae, I did comment on Ezra’s story, repeated below:

Ezra, I had a laugh when I watched the news story. I think your performance was fine and Rosenthal just made a fool of himself.

Say, it’s a good thing that Prince Harry wasn’t in Winnipeg. And of course the Swastika can have many different meanings. Well I delved for more information . Apparently the child drew a swastika on her own arm, the teacher washed it off, and mom redrew it for her! We could ask why the child drew a swastika in the first place, but really?

Ezra, you’re right. If there is child abuse or neglect then the authorities should act, but when they act on thought crimes heaven help the average citizen. I think the authorities need counselling, and not you as alleged by Rosenthal.

I see Ezra also has a follow up story.

Very Off Topic

In a surprise development author John Scalzi has left his lair open for commenters to raid and pillage. Loose change is being pilfered from the furniture, Ubaid Stout is being liberated from the sub-sub-dimensionally sideways-sub-basement, and Scalzi's masters Lop-sided Cat, Ghlaughghee, and Zeus are encouraging this behavior with great glee.

Wronwright has announced he'll believe in Ubaid Stout when he tastes it.

I've educated my child (now 22) to not trust politicians or bureaucrats. Or "The State" in general. SO glad this isn't going to send me to the gulag...but I may have to be careful about the education of my grandchild...
