If he trusted the voters with the truth they'd give him a fair go but he is so wary of making a mistake they don't know what he stands for.
Perhaps he is still settling into the job and perhaps behind the apparent coldness there is a lack of confidence.
But at the moment, there is no public persona for people to believe or trust: just a blond head with a blank face and a never-ending sentence.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Mr Mitchell now mentioning that which was often said during the Election campaign, and ignored by a portion of the public intelligentsia?
