NATHAN Rees is the new premier of NSW after Morris Iemma resigned earlier today.
Mr Iemma was forced to stand down following a challenge by the former Emergency Services Minister, Mr Rees, who has been in parliament for only 18 months.
It was the first time in its 117-year history that Labor had dumped a premier.
Mr Rees confirmed he had been selected as the new leader of the NSW Labor Party and hence the new premier of NSW.
More.

Will the last Labor MP to quit the NSW parliament please turn out the lights.
They won't have to if Garnaut gets his way.
Ha! Very good point, Wand.
How's it going? Have you prepared for the end of the earth (as we know it) next week?
Hi Kae,
A fun trip - I'm gearing up for the big flight on Sept 10 across the Atlantic.
But as I said, don't be concerned. I'll let you know if I get caught in a time warp, a black hole or even CERN spider's web.
Ah Wand. I should be doing housework, I've decided that as the world is going to turn topsy turvey on September 10 there's no point in me doing the housework.
I know I'm going to regret this when I wake up on September 11 and everything's the same.
*sigh*
Unlike another September day when I woke up and knew nothing would ever be the same.
