FFS - Does this mean that Xers think we're all freaking hippies?

All the Boomers/Jones Gen people I know grew up.

But when we watched Barack Obama's victory speech on Tuesday night, we looked into the eyes of a real leader, and decades of cynicism about politics and grass-roots movements and community melted away in a single moment. We heard the voice of a man who can inspire with his words, who's unashamed of his own intelligence, who's willing to treat the citizens of this country like smart, capable people, worthy of respect. For the first time in some of our lifetimes, we believed.

Obviously SOME have never heard "talk is cheap".

One becomes A leader by doing, NOT talking.

Time for me eye test...."ingedic". Not today, rather tired for some reason.

Gen X are supposed to be the cynical pramatists. The problem is, that GenX were educated by the boomers, and deep down the brainwash is still there. This guy is proof that sometimes the generational stereotype can be defeated by some good old fashioned bullshit.

Oh yeah, and boomers are hippies. ;)

Hi El!
Richard, we aren't all hippies, some of us grew up... well, I'd say most of us grew up.
Anyway, I'm a Gen Joneser, not a Boomer.
Nyah!

Richard,

I'm a boomer, and I'm not a hippy, either.

Neat trick, growing up in California, but it's possible.

Like living in a bughouse here, granted.

Don't know about the US, but here there may be a hippie gene, Kae. With delayed effect.

Haven't you seen all the greying Harley riders on our highways, opening up to their inner Easy Rider? Hundreds.

I'm supposedly a 'Joneser' but I ran off to join the hippies in 1968 when I was 13, did the Indian guru commune thing and burnt out.

I'm not going to any more school reunions. At the last one I sat with a guy who was always Mr Ordinary, his own mechanics business, wife and kids, footie and church. Safe, I thought.

So he gets all weird and tells me he has now found the Truth, a guru called Mataji Nirmala blah blah, who is taking him for a ride. Then the other guys around, churchgoers their whole lives, start talking about how they hate the church but they go because their parents expect it. 'Hey' I want to scream, 'I tried all those alternatives, you're making a big mistake!'. But Mr Ordinary has the glazed eyes of a koolaide drinker, and will probably make a scene if I 'blaspheme' his 'guru'.

Hippie genes, Kae. Scary stuff.

So the Hogs aren't a "mid-life crisis" thing?

Sheesh. I know lots of people in their late 40s to 60 who've done the Harley thing.

Genetic?

Hmm. I gues Mum and Dad didn't have that gene. Whew!

Oh, and I think most of my peers who I keep in touch with grew up... quick. (I really think that the Jonesers missed the hippy thing, that nine years saved us maybe?)
