Making people communicate

Play Me, I'm Yours: Sydney 2009

Why is it that when I go to the laundrette I see the same people each week and yet nobody talks to one another? Why don’t I know the names of the people who live opposite my house? Play Me, I’m Yours was designed to act as a catalyst for people who regularly occupy the same space, to talk and connect with one another. Listening to the radio programme made by NPR about this project it seems to have worked.

Disrupting peoples negotiation of their city, the pianos are also aimed to provoke people into engaging, activating and claiming ownership of their urban landscape.
What a clever art idea, more here!

I don't know art, but I know what I like. And I like this idea.

What a great idea.
Our daughter will walk past one of the Sydney pianos every day.
I hope they survive the rain and vandals for awhile.

We could put many creative ideas out there in the public domain, but the first mental brake is 'it will be vandalised'. Sad isn't it? Just imagine how free we would feel if vandalism didn't exist.

Why don't we all leave our homes open, or our cars unlocked, or not worry about our daughters walking in town with their girlfriends. Because evil exists.

I admire this concept and I hope it goes someway towards lowering the public expectation of being gippped. Mehaul.

Hi Mehaul
The pianos are all playable, some in good nick (in tune) and some not so good.

The artist got all the pianos for free off the web!

Admirable.

But I'm a born-again cynic, so I'm with Mehaul on this one.
