Undisaster II

Overnight the laptop decided to download some updates and turn itself off. Thismorning I thought "Ahhh, looks like I'll have to reload Windows." (The fingerprint reader wouldn't work, wasn't even prompting with sound to swipe the finger. Gimmicky, I know, but my memory is stuffed, and it's helpful.)

Well, the finger swipe worked.

I guess the lazy finger print reader's been re-booted, too. Good!

I have turned off the auto update "feature". The computer never reboots after an update - it hangs all night and I have to pull the power cable out to reboot it.

Don't give my computer any ideas.

I spent the whole of yesterday trying to get Mrs Skeeter's computer display to work. The error message claimed that the display adaptor could not find enough free resources (Code 12).
I hate it when a machine beats me and I went to bed dispirited after countless disables-enables, uninstalls-reinstalls, shutdowns and reboots.
This morning, as I was loading the box into the car to take it into town for a brain-transplant, I thought of one more thing.
So back into the house, opened the box, pulled out a suspect SCSI card by the roots and threw it away.
Problem fixed.
Sometimes you only have to threaten them with surgery for them to come to their senses.

Kae,
Don't forget to set up another administrator account with a password on it that you can remember so if the fingerprint thingy goes astray again you can log in and reset stuff. Use the password hint.

Thanks Seza
What I really need to do is stop fluffing around on the blogs and get up off my freckle and do some work around this place.

I'll have to reread the hints (and write the bloody password down!). I think I know what it is, but I'm not sure.

It was a miracle when some IT Genius at work FINALLY decided to align all our password protected work sites so that we could use one main password to get into everything we needed to access.
