Eric Steward, 80, of Yass in New South Wales (just south of Canberra), popped out in his trusty Hyundai to buy some milk.
Hours later he phoned his wife, in unfamiliar territory, near the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne.
Seeing his interview on the telly tonight I found him to be pretty sharp and a bit of a character. When asked whether he'd get himself a GPS he cracked that he didn't intend to get lost. While gesturing to the surrounding media he also said "You make a mistake once and look at what happens?"
Mr Steward will drive back to Yass on Thursday in his trusty Hyundai, his wife beside him as navigator...

Believe it or not, I harbor a great fear that this might happen to me someday.

Kae, I don't like to be picky but if Mr Steward takes notice of you, he may never find his way home.
Yass is 58 km north of Canberra.
How do I know?...I drove from Canberra to Yass one morning about about 3 weeks ago and I remember that the sun was on the right.

Good thing I have a Navman!
I remember, many moons ago, pillioning on a motorcycle from Canberra (Watson), to Yass for a midnight burger. I fell asleep on the back of the bike on the way back to Canberra.
