Stewart has been discussed on ABC Brisbane 612 by the head of QUT, and it appears he may lose his job. He is a member of the "professional" staff, described as a researcher. The major concern seemed to be that he might be actually teaching students... in a University... where they're supposed to be taught to gather the facts and information and make up their own minds.

The interviewer on ABC asked the head of QUT whether this man's protest/statement was going to cause him trouble at work when Universities used to be the place where outrageous deeds were done to make protests, and protests were taking place all the time at University.

Interesting that these days the things that are protested against and/or about at University are conservatives, any conservative ideas or ideals, conservatives in government, the student union losing money because of cutting of compulsory student union fees (which has led to a whole new quality in food etc on campus!), locking up boatpeople, they'll protest for human rights the problem being that those rights they protest for are of the minorities and to hell with the rest of the community.

These days I note that noone with conservative views on anything who works or studies at a University will dare speak out about their views for fear of unfairly being ostracised, abused, or worse.

And who is offended the most about this book burning?

I'll give you a hint, the offendees are from the ranks of the perpetually offended...

Unchristian?

Australia's Got Talent. I usually avoid these programs, but managed to watch most of this one from the early auditions.

The grand final was well done. The entertainment included Brianna who entertained and amused us with her popularity, put together with clips from the show. It was very well done.

Then all the dancers on the program got together in a dancing extravaganza. They were brilliant. It all came together very well.

Finally, after much annoying, suspenseful music the winner was announced.

I really wanted Cameron to win, he's closer in age to me and not a bad sort. He's probably not the best singer on the program, but he wrote all his own stuff and it's very good. Soppy, yes. But it's good. Anyway, Neil Diamond's not the best singer either, and look where he's gone!

So now I read that the father and son who were split to two acts on the program have been excluded from their church. What did they do wrong?

Saudi 'genie' sued for harassment

A family in Saudi Arabia is taking a "genie" to court, accusing it of theft and harassment, reports say.

They accuse the spirit of threatening them, throwing stones and stealing mobile phones, Al Watan newspaper said.

The family have lived in the same house near the city of Medina for 15 years but say they only recently became aware of the spirit. They have now moved out.

A local court is investigating. In Islamic theology, genies are spirits that can harass or possess humans.

Nile submits, no one offended

Fred Nile, renowned crusader for Christian morality, NSW MP with the Christian Democratic Party, argues that no one should be offended on the beach. So, women mustn't go topless.

"Our beaches should be a place where no one is offended, whether it's their religious or cultural views," he said.

He's talking about not offending tourists on the beach.

He’s talking about the slippery slope to total nudity.

I guess he’d be happier if we all went back to the woollen neck-to-knee bathers on the beach. Or if we all wore burkhinis.

That offends me, and I live here. (Though I’d happily live without budgie smugglers.)

Can I just ask what the hell the tourists come here for if it's not to admire the contours on the beaches? More here.

Daniel Pipes fires a shot at Nile, here. It is a shame that other politicians didn't stand up for the right of Australians to enjoy the beach as they see fit - I'm sure that not all beaches allow topless bathing.

Muslim school sacks teacher who wanted national anthem

A MUSLIM school has banned the national anthem at assemblies and sacked the teacher who asked for it to be played.

Australian International Islamic College teacher Pravin Chand was sacked last month, four months after his proposal for students to sing Advance Australia Fair was ruled to be against the "Islamic view and ethos".

A memo sent to teachers in July also announced "the singing of the anthem will be put on hold".

Yesterday, the Brisbane school denied it had banned the national anthem at assemblies.

Well, of course they didn't ban the National Anthem. They've been taken out of context, it goes without saying.

A QUEENSLAND father of five has taken action in the Anti-Discrimination Commission after his four-year-old daughter was asked to help make a replica of Noah's Ark at the local state school.

Ron Williams, who has five children under the age of 10, is opposed to religious instruction in state schools.

He said he was taking action because he did not believe students should be "exposed to superstitious mumbo-jumbo, presented as fact, in an educational setting", The Australian reports.

I'm in two minds about this story. The children watched a movie and were learning about animals and the sounds they made.

If he's going to get antsy about Noahs Ark, I wonder if he'd get upset about his children being taught that man is destroying the world with AGW, pollution, etc.

Someone should really do something about educating Australians about turning Australia into a tip*. Many years ago I had friends visit from the US and they marvelled at how clean Australia was, how clean the cities were. Not any more. Rubbish seems to be strewn all over the country side and in the cities people just throw their rubbish anywhere.

Take it with you. Put it in the bin. (Just don't look in my passenger-side foot well... mmmm'kay?)

Resident's spokesman Tony Doherty said Muslim schools did not encourage multiculturalism.

"It's segregation, not integration," he said.

"They're not trying to integrate into the rest of society.

"Since we have started protesting against this our churches have been covered in hate-filled graffiti."

He denied it was hypocritical to oppose Muslim and not Christian schools.

Strangely, noone has called for calm amongst Christians after these hate-filled graffiti assaults. more
