Not content with the guts of the story on the move to stop any Sharia allowances in Oklahoma court, they found a 9/11 Muslim widow to show that Muslims were victims of 9/11, too.

ABC now - Ayyan Hirsi Ali being interviewed by Jennifer Byrne

Byrne asked a question and the answer mentioned the different make up of society. Byrne called it the multicultural world we live in today and was corrected by Ayyan who said it was a multiethnic society, and there is now a clash of cultures.

True.

The younger dryas 12,800 years ago was the first demonstration of AGW.

I heard this on the radio thisafternoon. Bernie Hobbs, the science reporter for the ABC was waffling on about it with Richard Fidler.

Climategate deniers - they're everywhere!

On the radio (ABC Local 612 Brisbane) this morning was a caller who branded non-believers in climate change "troglodytes". He sounded like an old-timer and so I would have imagined he had more life (and weather/climate experience), and therefore more sense.

There were also callers who were talking about Hockey and the "deniers" bringing down the Liberal party and what a catastrophe that would be - can't they see the catastrophe if the ETS is allowed to happen? It won't achieve anything to save the planet from AGW/CC, but will make many people richer, and many more poorer.

It makes me so angry.

There were those discussing the campaign of phoning and sending emails to their federal members and to senators, and whether it was "orchestrated" (the consensus was that it is some kind of conspiracy, not people raising their own concerns that this is obviously some kind of conspiracy.

So now those who don't believe in AGW/CC, or who wish to err on the side of caution, or who can patenly see that the ETS will not change a thing, who don't understand the ETS or know what the implications of this new tax will be for them (much more than $1,000 per annum to pay out), can not think for themselves?

God help us all!

Suzuki is raving mad

Heard briefly on the radio just before the crack of sparrow (sometime between 4:45 and 5am), Suzuki was interviewed by the night presenter and I heard his reply to a question I didn't hear. (Paraphrased)

"There's a new book coming out, it will explain where all the denialists money is coming from."

He named the book, I don't remember.

"Denialists", he called people, seriously, he called them denialists!

I really hope that the awakening has begun. I don't know that I can cope with knowing there's so many crazy people wandering around with me.

Last Friday's ep. was a scream. As I was visiting the dentist the next day I was espeically interested in the "How do they train dentists, who do they practise on?" bit.

Ignore the Dan Brown bullshit connection, this is interesting!

ABC AM 5 Feb 09 - Update with links

Read about the giant fossilised snake found in Columbia (or should that be Columboa?) - first they say that the temperature 60M years ago was much higher than it is now. That's why the snake got so huge. It's some kind of python/constrictor snake.

Then the discussion progresses somehow to tha implications of this find on what will happen to us when AGW increases temperatures. (Yeah, we'll be eaten by hungry, giant snakes!)

Assuming the Earth today was not particularly unusual, the researchers calculated that a snake of Titanoboa's size would have required an average annual temperature of 30C to 34C (86F to 93F) to survive.

By comparison, the average yearly temperature of today's Cartagena, a Colombian coastal city, is about 28C.

Um. I see a problem here... there's a bit of a disconnect with the fact that temperatures 60M years ago were much higher than they are now. So. What caused it? The industrialisation of the snake world? Snake commerce? Hmmm? Yes, the industrialist of 60M years ago discovered AGW and just quit... that's what made them extinct. Obvious, huh?
