Horrible Bosses

Don't waste your time on this pathetic dross.

The Help

An interesting movie about a book written from the points of view of black maids in the south. It touches on the segregation laws of the time and tells of the mistreatment of the black maids and nannys, many of whom were the sole care givers for white children growing up in these times. We know that many families in the UK had servants and we know that their lives were not idyllic in many situations.Of course, if you look the book up on wiki there's a paragraph about someone complaining about the book implying bad things about absent black fathers and so on.

As the author was raised in Jackson, where the book is set, and there is some of her in the main character, Skeeter who is the book's author, I suspect that much of the book is drawn from real events. In my quick research I can't see anything to denote that the book was based on fact, I suspect that it was based on Kathryn Stockett's experiences and those of her contacts.

All Good Things

A sad movie, a work of fiction based on some facts. Read a review of the movie and then this Robert Durst, whose wife disappeared in 1982 ...

Despicable Me

Overwrought descriptions of the Flood Crisis in Brisbane were wearing, the news coverage has been annoying, with talking heads talking for the sake of making noise to go with the endless looped replays of the most spectacular terrifying images from Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, youngsters expressing dismay at the height of the floodwaters - like it's never happened before - and endless images of the same-old same-old with no factual or identifying information on the footage.

Started watching Despicable Me last night until I was too tired to take it in. I have to watch it and two more today.

I laugh at so many of the cute things the girls do to Gru, like the littlest one clinging to his leg when she is returned to the orphanage... I used to ride around on my dad's leg like that!

And winning the unicorn toy... hilarious.

The Coast Watchers - PT 109

I've just finished reading The Coast Watchers by Patrick Lindsay, a birthday gift to me from me. So I was very interested to see the movie PT 109 on GEM today.

I saw the beginning and I'm watching the end now. The middle had to be missed as I needed to venture out and obtain supplies.

I can't look at anything in the book for reference purposes as I loaned it out to someone on Thursday. When my friends have finished with it I'll be putting it on the bookshelf at the RSL.

Triffids

I recorded a movie during the week, the latest remake of the triffid story.

I should have realised within the first half hour of the program at the mention of AGW and triffid oil saving the world from AGW that it would be crap.

Although I must admit that having the AGW cause mentioned in a Science Fiction movie is approprate, it's where the theory belongs.

"Beneath Hill 60"

BENEATH HILL 60 is a new Australian FEATURE FILM directed by renowned actor/director Jeremy Sims and written by screenwriter David Roach. It will shed light on this untold story of the Australian miners with a finely tuned dramatic script and the finest actors, working in underground sets built in association with the mining community in North Queensland.
