Carollers asked to leave shopping centre in Ipswich, Qld

On the news today I heard a piece about carollers who were asked to leave the Riverlink shopping centre at Ipswich. They were asked to leave because they were overly religious.

The pastor from the local Ipswich church was interviewed on Mornings and he said that as well as the carolling they were also talking about Christmas and telling stories. The pastor said that they respected the request from the shopping centre management and realised that perhaps they had been a little too religious.

Funnily enough, they were Presbyterians!

Sorry, no link.

Surely not! If so, how times have changed! I am truly shocked!

Having attended a Sydney school run by these esteemed folk, I have a vivid recollection of the austere nature of that religion particularly when compared to the Church of England. At least with the CofE you got a sip (swig) of sherry with Communion or something like that. Now I'm not sure if anyone got anything at all with the Presbyterians but if so, I didn't see it. I reckoned that those canny Scots were all Scrooges at heart.

And talking about money, I see kevin747 is running out.

Oh well no doubt he will just crank up the printing presses Gough Whitlam style. Wait on this is a new era so maybe it will start with the Whitlam style subsequently morphing to the Mugabe system. Oh WTF he has plenty of time before we can get our own version of this.

Wand, it's interesting that The Age published that Gough Whitlam story as recently as four years ago.
Pity they didn't print it again before the last election.
After surviving the Whitlam years, I find it hard to understand how any Australian born before 1950 would ever vote Labor.
My prediction for 2009:
Worse than the Whitlam era — and this time God might save the Queen, but neither the GG nor the Opposition has the necessary appendages to save Australia.
(Sorry to go OT, Kae. Blame Wand.)

It's OK to go off topic.

It forces me to open another thread.... So here it is...

well, it will be when I open it.

Skeeter, the way things are going you could be right with your prediction. I hope you're not and I would guess you would hope the same. However, all the signs so far are for a repeat of Whitlam's folly. And while Krudd is a different kettle of fish, I'd say he is as self-centred as Gough and will push on with his agenda regardless of anything else. The only thing though is that for those of us who have lived through Whitlam's folly, we know that the end results will not be pleasant and many people will suffer.

.. Merry Christmas ..

Now what was that about blame? I don't subscribe to blame so rest assured no buck rests with me.

Quite true about Scots, Wand. In fact:

"Christmas was not traditionally celebrated in Scotland because it was banned for nearly 400 years until the 1950's. Hogmanay was the real traditional celebration. The reason Christmas was not celebrated until recently go back to the time of John Knox in the 1580's as it was seen to be papist in origin - the ban was strictly enforced in law."

Scot's joke. What's the difference between a Scotsman and a coconut?

You can get a drink out of a coconut.

Merry Christmas all. Mehaul.

(Oldie but goodie)

Merry Christmas to you Kae, and all the Blairites who migrated here from the old site, many who now inhabit Kae's blogroll. Like old friends, well met.

2009 promises to keep the VRWC happily amused mocking the Krudd machine, Glowball Warmening, and Woine Swan in particular.
