Well, let me see... what D'Arcy did was a serious criminal act. He has a bit of a record for assault.
What if his victim had died, or suffered permanent brain damage?
D'Arcy is a thug. The big, bad world treats thugs differently to law abiding citizens, or people who make a little mistake. Getting drunk and smashing someone in the face with your elbow is not a little mistake.
He's not being punished, he's a convicted criminal and that criminal record will close many doors before him.
