Glasses

Ok.
I've finally got to an appointment and sorted out new glasses.

The old ones were pretty scratched and the optometrist said that is probably what's caused my vision problems. I wear graduated bifocal lenses these days. I've had the same glasses for four years and four months. The script has only changed up a little for my astigmatism.

Last time I had my eyes tested I paid $500 for new glasses and received a rebate from my health fund of $305, approx.

This time the glasses have cost me, are you sitting down? $730. The frames were a bit extravagant, $329, OPSM has a $100 off the frames offer this month for frame and lens packages. Then add the $100 odd for the anti-reflective coating on the lens, and the rest is the lens. Mind you, I purchased a similar frame arrangement to the last lot, with a magnetic sunglass attachment, because I need to wear my glasses all the time.

I think next time I will be purchasing cheaper frames, although I decided that most of the frames I liked were around the $300 mark, so I've got two pairs of glasses (normal and sunnies) for the price....

I'll be speaking with the health fund on Monday to find out why the rebate is miniscule.

Wha?

I can't hear you, it's too loud....

It could be age, Boomster, it could be rum. It could be too many dangerous missions…

*loud, audible cockpit warning, dweet dweet dweet*

Virtual voice: ~Warning~ doof-doof in neighbourhood ~warning~ ears failing ~warning~ bright sunshine glare ~warning~ avionic systems failure ~ ~ ~ eject! eject!

Wing Commander Kae: I’m going down! Abort mission, abort! abort! abort!

Splice, set your location beacon....

We'll find you and rescue you...

Now.

Give us a hint...

What planet are you on?

Thank God, a friendly voice… I’m here on Earth again, looking for the Chinese submarine that took Harold Holt. Sometimes I wonder if all of these VRWC missions really can help us take over the entire Solar System.

Anyhow, beacon set.

Australia, East Coast, Latitude 33° S. I’m just back from the beach and if it’s not too much trouble, can you have a black helicopter airdrop a towel?

That will be fine, Splice...

I'll despatch...

Um...

Errrr...

Wait one.

OK, so you did order anti-scratch lenses this time Kae, not just the anti-glare?

You'll laugh at the cost of my glasses, purchased 12 mths ago - just a fraction under $1000, most of that for the frames that ARE NOT frames.

Yep, I got the frameless kind. Paid around $700 for the arms and the little nose bits.

Two pairs, one for reading, one for computer work.

So, $2k for NO frames.

Gotta laugh, right?

Oh, Caz.

They don't see you coming, they send out a taxi to get you!

Mine are at least two pairs, and I'm told the coating is on the scratched to bits glasses I'm using now...

I'm seriously thinking about getting the script from OPSM and, after I get the new glasses, going to one of the discount specs places and getting new lenses put in these ones. As my script hasn't changed in 4 years I reckon it'd be a good investment.

I'll need to get reading glasses, too. The bifocal/graduated (what is that called when there's no line, it's not graduated, is it), lenses are no good for reading in bed.

I looked at glasses that had no frame on the bottom of the lens, but they were HUGE, and I believe HUGE glasses are out?

There were smaller ones, but the sunglass attachment magnet was only in the middle of the nose piece and so they were pretty flimsy... too easy to knock off when working in the yard.

What's this "working in the yard" nonsense?

Haven't you heard of slaves, er, ummm, I mean Green jobs? Get with the programme, Kae!
