Where's the money coming from?

Mum was chatting with me on the phone this morning (total waste of a morning as far as getting any work around the place done, two phonecalls took me from 9am to 12:30pm!), and reading the paper, The Tele of course, at the same time... reading out bits and pieces to me. Suddenly she let out a loud exclamation of disbelief.

She was reading this:

THE State Government has made a staggering $50 million offer to the National Rugby League to ensure the Grand Final stays in Sydney for the next decade.

In the wake of the Queensland Government's bold attempt to snatch the state's biggest sporting event, the unprecedented offer was made after the NRL scoffed at Premier Kristina Keneally's initial bid - rumoured to be $2.6 million per year.

Should be interesting, just saw the shorts for it... people saying they'll not vote Labor again... It appears it's about the NSW government.

I can't see how NSW's ALP government is any different to the other ALP governments around Australia, and especially in Canberra. But I guess if I watch it Imight see tomorrow night.

Strewth, the demise of Morris Iemma - No Honour Among....

Watching this program it seems there is an ALP blueprint for pissing money up against the wall whilst not really doing anything. Surely the tax base has risen enough to support infrastructure?

How interesting, the solution provided by Rees is a tunnel and rail line between the city and the inner city - CBD Metro - wow, that's really going to help the people without any public transport at all.

Balmain Tigers' football club seems to be getting a new club on the deal - the inner western suburbs station will be constructed on the site. Members are angry, they feel the deal has been done and they had no input. A bike shop owner, operating for 36 years, was offered over $1M by Wests Development, but now that amount has shrunk by several hundred thousand dollars.

The "Metro" as it's called is not required, it is in the inner city where public transport abounds.

I'd say I can't believe it, but unfortunately, I do.

Update II:
I wonder how much this farce has already cost?

Meanwhile, a new development north west of Sydney, The Ponds, is planned and in the making. It will be the size of Canberra. There is no public transport.


Update III:
I'd like to say that the ALP is toast, but...

Reba sacks herself!

Hmm.

Her resignation places the Labor in an unenviable position and caps a difficult first week for NSW Premier Nathan Rees as he struggles to claw back credibility for his new but already damaged Government.

Mr Rees yesterday dumped beleaguered Labor MP Noreen Hay as the parliamentary secretary for health and administrative committee representative.

A day earlier, Mr Rees sacked police minister Matt Brown for lying to him about dancing in his underpants in his office at a post-budget party at parliament house in June, where he was alleged to have straddled Ms Hay's chest.

Claw back credibility, Rees, ALP.... that's the funniest thing I've heard in an age!

Perhaps Reba was avoiding the Rees Rush?
