Farewell to the F111s - I'll miss you!

Just heard what I think is the final flyover by the F111s, they'll fly over Ipswich, Brisbane and the Gold Coast today, just before lunch... that's now!

Farewell to the F111s... and to the spectacular dump-and-burns on special occasions.

Riverfire!

It's on again - tonight.
The last time with F111 dump-and-burn.

I could have gone in to see it from an excellent vantage point, but I'm just too pooped to be driving home afterward.

Tweets, see #F111 or #riverfire

Update:
Here's a youtube search with a stack of F111 Riverfire 2010 videos. (Sorry, don't have time to find the best ones!)

Last Australian F111s flying tomorrow

Tomorrow will be the last time Australians will see their F111s flying, they will be participating in the fly-past at the Brisbane Anzac Parade tomorrow.

The F111 has served Australia well.

I'll miss them.

More idiocy (heard on the news)

An RSL member, a veteran, and a helper, have been looking after the Cotton Tree Park Cenotaph, making sure that the grass is mowed and raked, and the gardens are watered and all is kept neat and tidy. The Local Government Council decided that these two blokes weren't OH&S trained and so they shouldn't be doing the work. (Hey, I don't see the council intervening when we mow our "nature strip", which we don't own, but we must maintain!!!)
The Daily reported on its front page this morning how the pair spent each Tuesday morning tidying up the Cotton Tree Park Cenotaph, lest the council forget.

Yesterday, though, Prickles and his sidekick ran into strife when Sunshine Coast council workers confronted them, saying they were not permitted to clean up the Cenotaph site.

Prickles, who is 81 and served in the Royal Australian Air Force for 23 years, said he started tidying the Cenotaph a year ago. Michael saw Prickles at work and decided to lend a hand.
and then
UPDATE: THE Sunshine Coast council has “unreservedly” apologised to Neal “Prickles” Longden and his sidekick Michael Powell, after the helpful pair were told by council staff they could not do maintenance work around the Cotton Tree Cenotaph.

Prickles, an 81 year old air force veteran, and his mate Mr Powell, have been voluntarily maintaining the site for a year, disappointed with the council’s maintenance regime.

More here.

Rumours are around that the Brisbane Festival Celebration which is held every year in September, may be finished because of "environmental issues". They're bloody fireworks and it's once a year.

I don't know what's going to replace this now that the F111 looks to be retired... I hear the FA-18s flying around tonight!

Morons just want to suck all the joy out of life!

Riverfire 2009

Fireworks... meh.

F111 Dump-and-Burn, brilliant!

OK, 2008 Riverfire D&B.

Better 2008 Riverfire D&B.

2008 D&B. Music instead of the raw power of the noise of the flyover.

2007 Riverfire D&B.

They should ditch the contrived, prerecorded rubbish which they play before the opening F111 flypast.

How tired and emotional will Riverfire TV presenters be this year?

Last year's Riverfire telecast was annoying with all the well-lubricated commentators gushing about the presentation, and carrying on like they were in on some special joke.

Well, people, the joke was you lot. You were supposed to be working and it appears that you decided that having a few dozen drinks was fine in the scheme of things.

Just a heads up; your indulgence was annoying to many viewers.

I mentioned Riverfire in an earlier thread.

Update: not too bad, though I only watched the last ten minutes.
You really have to BE there for the F111 dump-and-burn, it has to be, um, felt!

Brisbane's Riverfire Festival is on this weekend

QBE Riverfire is on again.

And dang it, I missed the F111 practise run down the river - heard them zoom past...

I'll have to go up the hill and see if I can see the third (reserve) F111 do it's dump and burn over Ipswich, after the main event in Brisbane tonight.

Here's a taste...

and here's the Television Version:

A good still here.

In case you didn't realise it, I love F111s.
