Out here it struggled to get over 17 degrees today. And checking the rain gauge this evening there's 88mm in it, all from today.
It's still raining... I don't think it will ever stop. I think I should empty the rain gauge 'cos I reckon it's going to be going well over 100mm overnight!
From Weatherzone.

Last nights rain brings swarms...
Floyd's going mental. There are swarms of beetles whacking into the back sliding screen door and there are also termites swarming.
There don't seem to be many termites swarming at the moment, but give them time....
I'm hoping the bugs stop soon. I've turned out the light to stop Floyd leaping around, catching them and chomping them.
They aren't even the pretty Christmas beetles.
I'd take a photo but the beetles have spiky legs and I don't want them all over me (and I don't want Floyd all over me, either!).
Update:
EEEEEEEEEEuuuuuuuuwwwww
Floyd thinks the beetles are self-throwing, crunchy little treats.
Ick.

Beautiful day
Last night it rained.
And rained.
There was even thunder with some storms.
I heard the rain whenever I woke last night, and this morning it is still raining. It's been very dry again for weeks. Checking the rain gauge there's been 50mm (one two inches) overnight.
It's cool, only going to get to 26C today apparently, but I'm tired of the hot weather we've had for a while, it just drains my energy.
I've still got a cough from that wog I had the first week of this month.
Update: Thanks Anon. 50mm is definitely 2 inches! I'm mathematically challenged. Especially with conversions.

123 Don't blame me!
I washed my car on Sunday – I thought I was going to die. The temp was over 36C and the humidity was about 68%, I thought that washing the car would cool me down. That was a mistake. All I succeeded in doing was raise a sweat which ran into my eyes and mouth and had me spitting a lot. I don’t know whether I was wetter from the car/hose or from sweat – I’ll blame sweat!
On Monday morning at about 5:10 I awoke from my slumber to a strange noise. The fan was on so the noise was faint.
Ahhh! Raining. It was raining. I have a trimdeck roof and an awning over the gable end window in the master bedroom, so that’s why I could faintly hear the rain over the sound of the super fan. I tried to doze off, but there was a flash, ah, storm.
When I climbed into the car to go to work that morning I realised that I had missed most of the passenger side of the windscreen in my washing, and should have given all the windows an extra rub. Nevermind, I’ll be able to do that later, and fill up the windscreen washer bottle.
It rained very little on Monday after the initial storm, which dumped a lot of water as it left big puddles and water on the road.
This morning I awoke to the sound of more rain. It seemed pretty wet outside. I faffed around at home, checked the net and the blogs I had a chance to check, played with the pooches and threw some bikkies to them.
Time to go to work, threw on some clothes, grabbed some food to take and shut up the house. I wondered what the rainfall was so thought I’d check the rain gauge.
Looking across to the rain gauge from the carport I thought “That’s funny. There’s has to be some rain in there, but it looks empty!” When I got closer I realised that it wasn’t empty, but almost full. There was 123mm in the gauge! That was in the storm early yesterday morning and the rain last night.
Because of the recent flooding and because the soils has only just started to dry out, I have a feeling that as it’s rained so much maybe there will be more flooding – there was three inches up the valley yesterday which means that the creek would have come up about 8 hours later, that would make it about midday to 1pm yesterday. No reports of this anywhere so I don’t know whether the creek came up.
Just because I washed my car.
Okay, further to the above. I’ve been nursing a tooth which has been giving me problems for about five years. It’s finally just about had it now. I went to the dentist today and it’s gotta come out. But not this week (isn’t a colonoscopy in the week enough to deal with?). I asked for antibiotics to calm it down and I’ve made an appointment to have it ripped out next Friday.
*sigh*
Update:
One more thing. The side of the tooth beside the one which needs to be removed has a cavity... Oh goodie.

Oh-oh, now I've got a geyser!
Oh-oh, storm's coming... Sister in law phoned to tell me she'd just had 2 inches of rain dumped on her place in 30 minutes or so. There was a storm warning for my location expected to arrive by 6:25pm. Well, I can tell them that it was already here at 6:05pm. I saw the clouds bulging underneath and moving really quickly across the sky. See:
Then, after the calm the blowing, then rapid reduction in temperature, the rain started. I checked the gauge after about 10-15 minutes and there was almost 40mm. I think there's been a lot more because it's still raining now 6:55, but it was raining quite heavily from about 6:05 until about 6:45. Okay, just checked the rain gauge, 79mm!!!!! Which explains the geyser.....
UPDATE:
bit of background info, temperatures haven't been very high during the flooding and for almost a week afterward, but the past three days up to today have been scorchers. Forecast temp on Monday was supposed to be 32, it was 35,Tuesday's forecast was for 34, but it was 37. Today's forecast was for 30, but it was 35. MDFD and I were lamenting how we miss winter, we'd even put up with dry skin to be cool and dry! (It's really, really humid which makes it seem much hotter.)

Monsoon
Oh, look! It's after 9am and the rains have started. Again.
Every day, when it doesn't rain all day, it begins to rain in the morning and continues.
And noone had the foresight* to build any dams during the big dry.
UPDATE:
Checked the rain gauge this morning. About 25mm. I checked it thisafternoon, 63mm. I don't know what it is now... might look... Okay, I looked Seventy milimetres, and raining steadily. The eggs I photographed the other day have hatched, but the tiny tadpoles seem to have been washed away. The big ones on the other side of the driveway have been thriving on dry dogfood, and are growing back legs.
*or gumption, or both

Frog hollow
I have it here!
The frogs have been having orgies here, it's so wet and there are so many puddles. I notice today that the frogs have laid eggs on the east side of the driveway, they've already put tadpoles in the puddles on the west side of the driveway.
Today I notice two types of egg clusters. I wonder what sort of frogs they are?
I've checked the tadpoles I already have and they are not cane toads so all's well.

Rain, rain, rain
I just tipped out the rain gauge - 92mm in a week, this time last week I tipped out the rain gauge and it was 80mm. It rained almost all day yesterday, we received 40mm from 9am to when I looked at the rainfall at about 4pm. Local rivers were flooding and everything was soggy.
Today it's windy, blue skies, and I hear the mowers starting up. I should mow, but I have too much to do inside the house at the moment!

Evening smells.... green
Yes. It smells green outside.
Not the green of a summer-mown lawn, but the green of several days of rain, frogs croaking.... growing green.

Heard today
Smelly Bob denies, demands proof that charity money was spent on rebel arms.
Who f'ken cares?
A terrible tragedy. What an adorable child.
The dams are almost full, water restrictions are staying in SE Queensland... 91% capacity is the figure I heard today. The levels increased 19% from Monday last week. I wonder if the ALP will think at all about building more dams.
I started in the new job today. It may be same shit, different desk, but each empire has its own operating system. That's the hard bit. The S2/10 timetable's due 29/3... and it hasn't been started. And I'm not even sure what courses are taught!
I'm POOPED!

It's wet

I'm pretty sure that's Lake Eyre there in the middle of Australia. Click in either picture for a link to the BOM (Bureau of Meteorology), site.
It's so wet the birds have stopped flying...
They're taking the bike....
